            SILVER CITY- Western New Mexico University will commemorate Constitution Day by showing a film entitled “Judicial Independence,” in which US Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor, Anthony Kennedy, and Stephen Breyer discuss the need for an independent judicial branch of government to reduce the probability of executive domination.

            The film involves discussion of the issue with high school students and was made in May 2006.  The Annenberg Foundation at the
University of Pennsylvania has made this film available for Constitution Day activities.

            The film will run in the Besse-Forward Global Resource Center Auditorium on Monday, Sept. 18, at
7 p.m. and there will be discussion afterwards.  Dr. Jolane Culhane, WNMU History Professor, will serve as facilitator. The community is invited to attend.
