SILVER CITY— Entries for the Western New Mexico University Homecoming parade are being accepted. The parade will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, beginning on College Avenue and running through downtown Silver City. The 2006 Homecoming theme is “Travel the World…The Mustang Way.”
The parade entries will be judged in seven categories. The following are the award categories with a brief description:
Best Themed – This award will go to the entry that most follows the theme of “Travel the World” as determined by our judges.
Most Nostalgic – This award will go to the entry that most honors the returning WNMU class of 1956.
Most Creative/Resourceful – This award will go to the entry that most displays best use of available resources and student creativity.
Most Spirited – This award will go to the entry that most promotes the spirit and pride of Western New Mexico University.
Craziest/Most Original – This award will go to the entry that displays the most originality in its creation and presentation while following the theme “Travel the World”.
Best Community Entry – This award will go to the best entry by a community group or organization, based on adherence to theme, creativity, and spirit.
“Please join us for what should be the best homecoming ever on campus,” said Maria Dominguez-Rolfe, WNMU Multicultural Affairs/Student Activities Office. “We would like to have the community participate in the parade and the many other events scheduled for homecoming. The community presence is much-needed and welcomed!”
The deadline for parade entries is Oct. 19.
The Homecoming football game will pit the WNMU Mustang Football team against the Panhandle State University Aggies beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the WNMU Altamirano Field.
