SILVER CITY – Eva Weaver, a Western New Mexico University graduate and wife of a former WNMU employee, has been selected to serve as the Homecoming 2006 Parade Marshal. Weaver will lead the homecoming parade on Saturday, Oct. 28, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Mrs. Weaver graduated from WNMU in 1980 with a degree in Elementary Education. She attended the university after retiring from a lifelong career in civil service at Fort Bayard and the Forest Service. After receiving her degree she worked for the Silver City Public Schools for two years as a substitute teacher. Since then she has dedicated her retired life to bowling and golfing.
Weaver’s husband is the late Earl Edward Weaver who passed away on January 29, 2006. He attended New Mexico State Teachers’ College (now WNMU) and graduated in 1951. He worked as the director of the university bookstore and the purchasing department from graduation until his retirement in 1980.
A memorial will be held at the Alumni Garden on the WNMU campus for Earl Weaver on Friday, Oct. 27, at 3 p.m. The public is invited to attend and share their memories of Mr. Weaver.
The Weavers had one daughter, Susie, of Tucson, Ariz.; one son, Dan; two grandsons Aaron and Chase, one great-grandson Michael, and one great-granddaughter, Alicia.
The homecoming parade will follow the traditional route from campus, down College Avenue, right on Bullard, right on Broadway and conclude at the Grant County Courthouse.
