SILVER CITY—The Western New Mexico University Alumni Association has selected the Alumni Garden Committee as the recipients of the 2006 Outstanding Alumni Ambassador Award.  The committee will be recognized during Homecoming 2006 activities scheduled on Oct. 23 through 29.

The Alumni Garden Committee is comprised of Eugene Gomez, Jimmie Jones, Patsy Madrid, Christy Miller, Ken Puleston, Jan Sherman, and Betty St. John.  The alumni garden is located on the east side of Hunter Hall, home of the Alumni and Foundation offices.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Friday, Oct. 27, beginning at 5 p.m. at the WNMU Alumni Garden.

The garden was constructed through volunteer work with the assistance of the WNMU Maintenance Department as well as donations from alumni. Committee members, Ms. Madrid and Ms. St. John, each made generous contributions enabling the completion of the gazebo. The contributions were made in the name of their spouses, Lukie Madrid and Chas St. John.  The Alumni Garden project manager is Court Hall.

The Alumni Garden features a gazebo, large metal letters signifying all three previous University names and the current University name on the north embankment, a fountain and rock garden, benches, plants, and trees.

This garden is intended to be a living memorial to WNMU alumni, with future alumni and classes contributing to its growth and further development. Please join us in celebrating this event and enjoy the atmosphere while sharing it with other alumni.
