SILVER CITY- The Western New Mexico University spring 2007 drama production will be a storytelling evening titled, “Silver Nuggets”. The production will consist of the character of the Town of Silver City itself and the residents who had a role in creating it.

“The stories will tell of the town, its geography and geology, as well as the diverse cultures and personalities that formed it,” said Jack Ellis, production director. “Local historians are already onboard with the project and I would like to get local community members to help with research and share any stories they may have of Silver City.”

The storytelling will possibly include one or two films. There will be an eight to ten member cast but more people will be needed to work with the research and script development. There is a place for everybody to participate, said Ellis.

“I would like real experiences of the city with known characters such as Billy the Kid, Tom Bullard, Ben Lilly of course, but I want to focus on lesser-known persons, local humanitarians and the history, funny or sad of our community,” Ellis stated.

There will be an informal planning meeting to discuss details of the project on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Webb Theater. Community members who are interested in helping with research or performance are encouraged to come learn more about the project and ask any questions they may have.
