SILVER CITY--A special Mata Ortiz clay workshop will be offered free of charge on Nov. 15 and 16 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Western New Mexico University McCray Art Building Room 124.

“Come and see Diego Valles, a rising star potter of traditional and innovative techniques,” said Claude Smith, WNMU Professor of Fine Arts, Clay Discipline. “He will demonstrate the forming, sanding and burnishing processes. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and the community.”

The workshop is sponsored by the Friends of Clay, a group of students that have donated their clay objects for sale to further the ceramic program and offerings at WNMU. The workshop is free to students and donations from others will be accepted.

For more information or to register for the workshop, please contact Claude Smith at (505) 538-6501.
