            SILVER CITY-The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program offered by Western New Mexico University will continue through April 11, 2008.

            “Individuals who had their taxes prepared at WNMU/VITA between Feb. 4 through Feb. 15 and only filed a state tax return need to file a federal return to receive a rebate from the federal government,” said a VITA spokeswoman. “Please come back in and we will help you do this.”

            The schedule is Monday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. There will be a Spanish speaker on-site Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The services will be closed March 6th and 7th and March 21st through 28th. It is offered in the Phelps Dodge building in Rooms 137 and 139. The PD building is located on 12th Street.

            Participants are required to bring their W-2 forms, photo identification, social security cards for all taxpayers and dependants, and any other supporting documentation. Free e-filing is available.

            Taxes are prepared on a first come, first serve basis. For more information on the free tax service, please call the WNMU Business Administration Department at 538-6321.
