WNMU EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS
CELEBRATE ‘WEEK OF THE CHILD’
SILVER CITY, N.M. - Universities have traditionally recruited those in their young twenties. This month; however, Western New Mexico University (WNMU) will celebrate children of a much younger age when it kicks off its “Week of the Young Child” celebration on Monday, April 14.
Children from WNMU’s Early Childhood Programs will parade through campus on Monday at 10:00am as they bring awareness to this year’s theme “Bring Communities Together for Children.” An annual event, Week of the Young Child, plays a significant role for WNMU because of its nationally accredited Early Childhood Programs that serve more than 200 children in Grant County.
The celebration continues on Tuesday with an appreciation luncheon for teachers. Staff from the Mano a Mano School age program, just one of the six WNMU Early Childhood Programs, will treat teachers at Stout, Jose Barrios, and Harrison-Schmitt Elementary Schools to a snack at the teacher’s lounge.
“The Week of the Young Child is dedicated to raising public awareness of the crucial importance of the early childhood years to a child’s future success in school and in life,” said Alice Jones, Outreach and Development Officer at WNMU’s Early Childhood Programs Department.
