WNMU STUDENTS TO SHOW OFF ART WORK
SILVER CITY, N.M. – Nearly thirty Western New Mexico University students are
set to show off their artwork when the WNMU McCray Gallery features them in
their annual Student Art Exhibit this week.
With over 100 initial entries students had to withstand criticism from their
peers and faculty in two rounds of judging to see which pieces would make the
final cut.
This year’s special Awards Juror Augustine Romero will choose the final winners
when the collection opens for public viewing on Friday, April 18 at 4:30pm.
Romero is the curator of the South Broadway Cultural Center and Kimo Art Space
in Albuquerque. Romero’s picks will also be displayed at the South Broadway
Cultural Center next year.
Special events planned for the evening include the Juror’s Talk, student artwork
presentations, and the announcement of Art Scholarships recipients. Students
will also learn if they’ve been accepted into the Bachelor of Fine Arts program.
Friday’s opening exhibit reception, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturday’s
extended gallery hours are designed to coincide with the annual Great Race activities.
All events are free to the public. For more information contact the Francis
McCray Gallery at 575-538-6517.
