*Rising Star: Augustine Romero

Meet Augustine Romero this Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the McCray Gallery on the Western New Mexico University campus where he will present his Artist Talk at 6:30 P.M. following the Exhibit Reception for the artist at 5:30 P.M. Entry is free to the public for both activities. The Exhibit titled “Displaced Context” closes April 4th.

Gloria Maya, Professor of Art, Gallery Director cites the Albuquerque Tribune Arts page penned by Nancy Salem, October 5, 2006, where she projects the young artist’s career with her headline “Rising Star”.  You might also confer agreement once captivated by Augustine Romero’s artwork. He is New York City trained; a graduate of New York University, his work carries the influence of urban multiplicity tampered by a quiet strength of purpose, clarity and commitment to his vision. The sculpture combines a variety of materials arranged to live alongside together as a unit while the modular panel murals combine color from all sides of the color spectrum.

Al Arasteh, WNMU Professor of Mathematics, is featured with music entertainment playing his classical Spanish guitar at 5:30 P.M. Delicious and colorful refreshments will be served throughout the evening.

This artist and exhibit has been sponsored in part by Lenny Olson and the Holiday Inn Express.

The McCray Gallery hours are 10:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday through Friday.
