SILVER CITY-- The Western New Mexico University School of Education is requesting nominations for the 2008 WNMU Education Hall of Fame. The application is available on-line at www.wnmu.edu/academic/schedu/HallofFame/halloffame.htm or may be picked up at the School of Education Office located in the Martinez/Fall Building. The deadline for nominations is March 10, 2008.
WNMU has a long tradition of preparing quality educators in New Mexico. Due to this strong teaching tradition, the Education Hall of Fame was initiated in 1985 by Tom Holland in recognition of his mother, Cora Miller Holland, who graduated from the New Mexico Normal School in 1899.
The purpose of the Education of Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor exemplary classroom teachers and to serve as a depository of record for the accomplishments of those selected.
Inductees are noted for their talent to impart knowledge in the classroom, inspire a willingness to learn, instill confidence in students, and demonstrate respect for learning and students.
To qualify for the Education Hall of Fame, a candidate must be a graduate of WNMU or its predecessor institutions, must have demonstrated a dominant interest in classroom teaching and devoted the major portion of his/her professional career to classroom teaching at the primary, secondary, or higher education levels.
The person nominating a candidate must complete the application and provide adequate documentation and evidence to support the worthiness of the nominee. Alumni selected for induction into the WNMU Education Hall of Fame are recognized during the spring graduation commencement exercises.
