Silver City - The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities is accepting scholarship applications for the 2002-2003 academic year. The scholarships are made possible by donations from HACU’s sponsors. As a benefit of Western New Mexico University’s affiliation with HACU, WNMU students are eligible to apply for the scholarships administered by HACU. Applications and all required documentation must be received by June 28, 2002. Seven scholarships are available. Applicants for the Bureau of Land Management Award must be a full-time undergraduate, with a declared major in natural resources, sciences, forestry or their equivalent, and have a cumulative minimum 3.2 GPA.

The second scholarship available is the CIO Magazine Scholarship Award. Requirements are full-time undergraduate or graduate students with declared major in computer science and a cumulative minimum 3.2 GPA.

The CLASE/Coors Light Academic Success in Education Award is the third scholarship available. Requirements are full-time undergraduate or graduate from Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Texas, Wisconsin or Puerto Rico, pursuing any major and possessing a cumulative minimum 3.2 GPA.

The fourth scholarship is the Fannie Mae Scholarship Award. Requirements are first year, full-time graduate students enrolled in a business administration degree program with at least two years experience in technology, marketing, finance or accounting, and a cumulative minimum 3.25 GPA

. The fifth scholarship is the General Motors Engineering Excellence Award. Requirements are full-time undergraduate or graduate with a declared major in engineering and having a cumulative minimum 3.2 GPA.

The NASCAR Scholarship Award is the sixth scholarship program available. Requirements are full-time undergraduate using the scholarship in junior or senior year with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA, or graduate students enrolled at least part-time with a cumulative minimum 3.2 GPA, any major and a one page statement demonstrating either a recreational or professional interest in the motorsports industry.

The final scholarship program is the Wal-Mart Achievers Award. Requirements are full-time undergraduate in at least their sophomore year, declared major in business administration, general management, retail management, or their equivalent and a cumulative minimum 3.0 GPA.

Preference will be given to those working while attending school with an interest in retail management.
