For the summer of 2001, classes will begin on June 4 and end on August 3 at Western New Mexico University. Students may register and pay any time prior to and including June 4. An array of courses will be offered to give students flexibility in the scheduling of their summer classes. Courses will be offered in one week, three week, four week, and five week blocks. Some courses meet for the traditional five day week; others meet only Monday through Thursday giving commuting students less travel time and more time with their families. A number of three, four, and five week classes begin on June 4. Students desiring to attend classes later in the summer can take advantage of classes beginning July 9. This redesign will allow most students to have the July 4th week free. A change in federal financial aid regulations supports going to one official registration. Previously, WNMU offered two summer sessions, each being five weeks. Each session had a set registration day. In prior years, students could apply for financial aid by carrying three credit hours in either summer session. The current regulation requires an applicant to be carrying six credit hours for each registration period. If the previous format were maintained students would be required to carry 12 hours to secure financial aid for the full summer. By changing to a single registration date, eligible students can obtain financial aid by registering for six hours. Students who are planning on using federal financial aid for summer classes should contact the WNMU Financial Aid Office for further details at 538-6173. Students who will be receiving financial aid or veteran's benefits are encouraged to register by June 4. Students not receiving financial aid or VA benefits may register any time prior to the start of their classes. Tuition for summer is charged at $64 per credit hour for undergraduates and $69 per credit hour for graduate students. Student fees for the summer are $39.50. A registration fee of $20 will also be charged. A few courses may have additional fees assessed. |
