Mission Statement

The WNMU Student Health Center exists to affirm the clear role of
health and wellness in advancing academics. Our primary mission is to
maintain and contribute to a healthy and safe learning environment for
the student community. We are committed to providing high quality,
inexpensive and confidential primary care services in an accessible and
efficient manner which promotes maximum privacy and respect for
individual as well as cultural preferences. As health care providers,
we promote wellness from a holistic approach encompassing mind, body
and spirit. We encourage the student to make informed decisions about
health related concerns and we empower them to be self-directed and
well informed consumers in an ever changing health care system.

About Us

The WNMU Student Health Center is located in the Juan Chacon Building,
Room 250. The staff consists of a Masters prepared certified Family
Nurse Practitioner, a Registered Nurse, and a receptionist. We offer a
broad range of primary care services directed at treating acute, minor
ailments and include family planning and routine gynecologic care.

The Health Center is open Monday through Friday from 2PM to 6PM. Appointments are recommended but not required. Ill students can
almost always be seen the same day. All matriculating WNMU students
are welcome to be seen at the Health Center. Students carrying 7 or more credits and who pay student fees are eligible for unlimited free visits. A $15.00 charge is required by students carrying less than 7 credits. Payment is
reguired at time of visit. There is no-one on call during off hours.
Any student who feels they are too ill to wait to be seen until regular
Health Center hours is encouraged to got to Gila Regional Medical
Center Emergency Room for evaluation.

At this time, the Health Center offers limited in-house testing (rapid
strep, urinalysis, blood sugar, pregnancy testing, and some STI
testing). Any other diagnostic testing is referred to Gila Regional
Medical Center at the student's expense and can be billed directly to
the student's insurance company. For those uninsured students, the
hospital offers a medical assistance program.

The Health Center has qualified for a federal grant which enables us to
offer birth control, some STI testing, and well woman exams free of
charge for those students who qualify.
