Services

Services provided by WNMU Student Health Center are designed to help you maintain your health through education and prevention and to restore your health when necessary by treatment of illness, injury or stress.

The Student Health Center provides evaluation and treatment of acute conditions, wellness exams, family planning services, testing for sexually transmitted infections, gynecologic exams, tuberculosis testing, health education, psychological counseling, and health education. The Health Center has a limited pharmacy which provides students with cost effective prescription medication.

The Health Center is funded by the State of New Mexico and the U.S. Federal Government to provide family planning services on a sliding scale through Title X. These services include pregnancy testing, some sexually transmitted infection testing, birth control, PAP smears, emergency contraception pill, and sexual health education. The Health Center does not have a laboratory. Students are asked to go the the local hospital laboratory for blood work, x-rays, etc.

The Silver City is fortunate to have an abundant number of health care providers in the local community. Students with conditions outside the scope of the Health Center are referred to specialists (gynecology, pulmonology, surgery, orthopedics, urology, internal medicine, ophthalmology, dermatology, psychiatry, ENT, and, chiropractic) in town when ever possible. At times it is necessary to refer to specialists in Las Cruces.

The Health Center now provides free mental health counseling for any student regardless of how many credits he or she carries.
