Joe Moore of Indiana

Joe Moore ( ‘62, B.A. & '68 M.A.)

Moore is the president of the Indiana Alumni Chapter. An educator for ‘41 years, his career brought him many honors including multiple listings in the Who’s Who of Education, a Crystal Apple Award from the Indiana State Teacher’s District and the Torch of Knowledge Award.
The Indiana community has also recognized him as a leader with the Above and Beyond Award and the Shining Star award from the Rochestor Chamber of Commerce.
Moore is married to his wife Terry and has four children; Rusty, Cris, Mindy and John; and six grandchildren.

The Ogas Family 1940s to present

Reyes Ogas graduated in 1949

One of the first Ogas member to graduate was “Reyes Ogas” in 1949.  He was a teacher in the Silver City and Cobre school districts. He finished his teaching career at El Rancho Unified, in Pico Rivera, California. He had taught school for over 40 years.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is limited to alumni of WNMU who have demonstrated

excellence in their chosen profession or who have demonstrated excellence in the contribution to society.   

It was stated in the nomination that "The “Ogas” family since the 1940’s to present day, has hadan Ogas family member either graduating or attending WNMU, a span of over 70’s years. 

They inspired so many Hispanics to attend WNMU, and to go into education.  The Ogas’,

a family truly dedicated to education and to setting an example to so many of the Hispanics inGrant County. This family has taught for over 300 years combined, and counting".

Other Ogas Family attending Western were:

Clara Ogas graduated in the 50’s, teaching over 30 years.

Robert Ogas, graduated in 1963, he taught school and was a principal at Mayfield High in Las Cruces, N.M., he taught over forty years.

Olivia Ogas, graduated in 1963, teacher and principal in Las Cruces, taught over 40 years

Alfred Ogas, graduated in 1965, was a teacher, coach, principal and asst. supt. In California, he also came and recruited many WNMU graduates for his school district.

Annie Ogas, graduated in 1965, she taught and was a counselor in California for over 40 years.

Eve Ogas Dinsmore, graduated in 1967, taught school for 37 years in California.

Frank Ogas graduated in the1974 and 1983. He taught school in Silver City, and is still teaching in Arizona,

Karen Pierce Ogas graduated in 1976 with a degree in Business Administration workes for FMI at Chino Mines.

Monica Sanders Ogas  graduated in 1993 with a business degree,  now works for FMI as a process leader.

Lizann Ogas Rivera, WNMU graduate, is a CPA and working at UNM.

Steven Ogas, a 1998 graduate working in administration for FMI.

Kris Ann Ogas, WNMU graduate, teaching in Silver City.

Drenda Ogas Rivera, 2010 WNMU graduate.

Bianca Ogas Rivera, plans to be a 2010 Freshman at WNMU. 

Then there is Billy Ogas, Terry Ogas, etc. etc... just to name a few!

Yelena Shadrina-Ouderkirk and Katia Cordova will be inducted into the 2010 Western New Mexico University

Athletic Hall of Fame on October 16. The Athletic Hall of Fame Breakfast and induction is on Saturday,

October 16, at 8:00 a.m. at Student Memorial Building Mustang Dining Hall. Tickets will be available for purchase

through the alumni office. The three inductees and their families will also be honored during the Mustang football

halftime program. Kick-off is set for 1:30 p.m.

No matter what year you graduated make this year a reunion!!!
