Dear Alumni,
We are excited about how things are progressing for the November 10th exhibition men’s basketball game between WNMU and the University of Arizona at McKale Center in Tucson!
Before the game all are invited to be our guest at the Old Pueblo Grill, where the party will start at 4:30 p.m. on their beautiful and spacious patio. There will be delicious refreshments and a no host bar. Join President John Counts, Coach Jim Smith and some of his players from the 1961/62 team, the last WNMU team to play, and beat, the U of A, at the pre-game tailgate celebration.
Some of the team members who are planning on attending are Bob Parnell, Dick King, Tom Drangmeister, and Gary Busby. Coach Jim Smith will be there and Bruce Larson, U of A’s coach back in ’61 and ‘62. WNMU’s current coach, Mark Coleman, and U of A’s brand new coach, Sean Miller, will try to stop by the tailgate before the game.
The U of A is excited enough about this game that President Shelton and Alumni Director Christopher Vlahos want to speak to our alumni at the party. This game just might revive the old "rivalry" between our schools that was so strong from the 30's through the early 60's. So it’s really important to show Arizona that WNMU should repeat fairly regularly as an early exhibition game as WNMU picks up important revenue from this game, gets great recruiting aid in Arizona from this appearance and the players, particularly the ones from Tucson and the rest of Arizona, get real prestige and fun out of playing in front of 14, 000 fans. With around 300 known alumni in Tucson, and more to be found, we want to let the Wildcats know the Mustangs are in town!
