Academic Support Center Advising |
|
The Academic Support Center advises all new undergraduate students at WNMU, all undeclared students, and all students majoring in General Studies. Academic advising helps
students develop goals so that they may have a productive and rewarding
college career. Advising provides students with the opportunity to interact
closely with a faculty or staff member who is concerned about your academic
progress and overall goals. At the ASC, we strongly encourage students to meet with their advisors more than once each semester. While it is required to meet with your advisor when registering for classes, it is equally important to check in with your advisor about your academic progress and your academic goals. An advisor can help you develop goals, explore career options, and help you find the best study techniques that will benefit you. At the ASC, we offer “One-Stop Registration” for all students advised through the Center. When you come to meet with your advisor to discuss your schedule for the next semester, your advisor in the ASC will register you for those classes on the spot. Our advisors also assist students with Career Exploration. We offer students FREE access to the DISCOVER program. This is a computer-based career exploration program. If you are interested in learning about career options, exploring what majors might best prepare you for certain careers, or want to confirm your current career plans, then DISCOVER is right for you. Come by during regular office hours to try it. Each semester we have several faculty members who serve as part-time advisors in the ASC. These advisors are trained to deal with the unique needs of new and undeclared students. We also have a full-time Advisor/Counselor who, as a licensed professional, can assist students having difficulty with their college experience. There are many issues that affect college students during the school year, including: difficulty adjusting to college life, problems dealing with stress and anxiety, time utilization, and personal concerns outside the college realm. The advisors in the ASC are ready to help students, so come check out what the ASC has to offer. If you don't have an advisor, come make an appointment today and we can introduce you to one. |
