Academic Alert Program

The Academic Alert Program is designed to enhance student success at Western New Mexico University. In an effort to assist and retain students that are at risk of failing, dropping out of a course, or withdrawing from the University, we established an Academic Alert program, administered by the Academic Support Center (ASC), to reach these students and offer the supportive services necessary for them to be successful.

Instructors are asked to identify students that are having difficulties the classroom (virtual as well as face-to-face). This generally occurs during the fourth week of the semester; however, instructors are encouraged to submit an Academic Alert form at any time during the term.

Students having difficulties in these areas are candidates for Academic Alert:

  • Low test / essay / quiz / assignment scores
  • Incomplete or missing assignments
  • Excessive absences and tardiness
  • Failure to log into an online class
  • Unprepared for class meetings/does not bring required materials to class
  • Lack of required skills (math, communication, time management, etc.)
  • External distractions (athletics, home, work, finances, etc.)

Please call the Academic Support Center at 575-538-6400 for additional information or assistance.
