I.            Call to order @ 8:30 pm

a.    Motioned by Molina, seconded by Stevenson

V.           Approval of Minutes for January 20, 2008

a.    Motioned by Pool, seconded by Stevenson

VI.         ASWNMU Executive Council Reports

a.    President Abraham Martinez

                                          i.     Discussion of cabinet meetings, reports, and policy meetings.  Unfortunately missed one of the meetings.  Discussed the bandwidth and how he would like it to improve.  Submitted a report to Dr. Counts regarding two bills, there will be two items in the agenda.  First concerning the M.E.C.h.A. building and the main meeting that will be held in May.  Spoke with Maria about Great Race, looking very good. Looking into housing and MASA Office to help with Great Race expenses.  The bowling alley may be divided with MASA Office. Met with the Campus Police Committee about students appealing tickets.  President Summit Meeting this weekend where different students from different school come together to talk about issues on campuses. 

 

b.    Vice President Louis Ortega

                                          i.    Reminder to all senators to please hand in bookstore questions and concerns by Wednesday, March 14, 2008.  If there are any issues concerning senate hours please talk with him.

 

c.    Secretary Patricia Helgert

                                          i.    Great Race is looking really good.  Should be done with all loose ends by spring break or shortly after.  Met with Maria in the MASA office to discuss the talent show.  If you need judges for your evening event please get with her, she has a list of alumni who would like to help out. The schedule for Great Race has been revised and the rules for the events are written.  Please give any input concerning the rules to her.  Costs regarding Monday of Great Race; $1,000.00 to rent the Bowling Alley, $160.00 for nachos.  Also included on the budget were inflatable’s $900.00 and food baskets.

 

d.    Treasurer Ben Domke

                                          i.    Completed P.O.’s and will get them signed after the passing of the bills.  Met with Senator Molina and Senator Stevenson regarding scholarship changes.

 

e.    Attorney General Arturo Monje

                                          i.    Was absent from campus last week.  Monje attended sessions for recruitment in Albuquerque and Sante Fe convincing students why they should attend WNMU.  Schools meet up at hotels and talk about the schools they are representing to high school students.  He said there were a few students who were positive about attending.  We should all encourage other students to come to WNMU.  The bills for bylaws are ready.  Everyone have a great four day weekend.

VII.       Old Business

a.    Senate Bill for recognition of WNMU Art Club.  Appropriation of $150.00 of start up money. 

                                          i.    Motioned by Bass, seconded by Scott

                                         ii.    Discussion- Art Club held a benefit auction for art students for supplies and scholarships.  They will be sponsoring a Great Race team.  Would like to see the art work at WNMU stay within the campus.  Also raising money for a new Kiln. 

                                        iii.    Motion passes 11-0-0.

 

b.    Senate Bill for matching funds for Criminal Justice Club.  Appropriation of $477.66.

                                          i.    Motioned by Pool, seconded by Cordova

                                         ii.    Discussion- CJ Club sold t-shirts, chocolates, and fundraised with identi-kid.

                                        iii.    Motion passes 11-0-0.

 

c.    Senate Bill for matching funds for Alpha Pi Sigma.  Appropriation of $443.33.

                                          i.    Motioned by Pool, seconded by Cordova

                                         ii.    Discussion- Alpha Pi Sigma sold chocolate and raffle tickets downtown.  They also sold t-shirts.  Members must have higher G.P.A to be in this honors club.

                                        iii.    Motion passes 11-0-0.

 

VIII.    New business 

a.    Senate Bill for matching funds for Native American Club.  Appropriation of $156.27.

                                          i.    Motioned by Cordova, seconded by Scott

                                         ii.    Discussion- Native American Club sold fried bread in front of the campus ministry.

                                        iii.    Motion Passes 11-0-0.

 

b.    Senate Bill for matching funds for TKB Club.  Appropriation of $240.00.

                                          i.    Motioned by Stevenson, seconded by Cordova

                                         ii.    Discussion- TKB Club sold holes at Golf Day, and there is still more money pending.

                                        iii.    Motion Passes 11-0-0.

 

c.    Senate Bill for matching funds for Sociology Club.  Appropriation of $190.00.

                                          i.    Motioned by Edwards, seconded by Scott

                                         ii.    Discussion- Sold Roses for Valentines Day.  40 Roses @ $5.00 a piece.

                                        iii.    Motion Passes 11-0-0.

 

d.    Senate Bill for appropriation of funds to Athletics.  Appropriation of funds not to exceed $300.00.

                                          i.    Motioned by Smith, seconded by Bystry

                                         ii.    Discussion- Bought 100 tickets at $3.00 a piece for the basketball game WNMU vs. Adams State.

                                        iii.    Motion passes 11-0-0.

 

e.    Senate Bill for appropriation of funds for travel.  Appropriation of funds not to exceed $2000.00.

                                          i.    Motioned by Estrada, seconded by Bystry

                                         ii.    Discussion- This money will cover expenses for the convention this weekend as well as the campus safety meeting and higher education advisors meeting.  There is also a Board of Regents Meeting on March 18, 2008.

                                        iii.    Motion passes 11-0-0.

 

f.     Senate Bill for appropriation of funds for Great Race.  Appropriation of funds not to exceed $3000.00.

                                          i.    Motioned by Cordova, seconded by Molina

                                         ii.    Discussion- $1000.00 for bowling alley, $160.00 for nachos at bowling alley.  Also for food baskets.

                                        iii.    Motion passes 11-0-0.

 

g.    Senate Bill for amendment of Article III. Section I & II.

                                          i.    Motioned by Molina, seconded by Stevenson

                                         ii.    Motion passes 11-0-0.

 

h.    Senate Bill for amendment of Article V. Section V. A.

                                          i.    Motioned by Molina, seconded by Stevenson

                                         ii.    Discussion- Amended by Stevenson to add Attorney General, seconded by Cordova.  15hrs inside office and 5 hours outside office for President.  Stevenson encourages the senators to vote the bill down.  Senators will re-write and submit next meeting.

                                        iii.    Motion Fails 0-12-0.

 

i.      Senate Bill for amendment of Article V. Section V. F.

                                          i.    Motioned by Molina, seconded by Stevenson

                                         ii.    Motion passes 11-0-0.

 

j.      Senate Bill for appointment of Albert Sandoval for ASWNMU Senator.

                                          i.    Motioned by Cordova, seconded by Pool

                                         ii.    Discussion- Sandoval says he will represent the students who don’t have a voice.  He would also like to challenge senators.  Won’t say yes to all the Bill’s he would like to see a little action.

                                        iii.    Motion passes 11-0-0.

                                       iv.    President Martinez inducts Sandoval.

 

IX.         Announcements

a.    Dr. Farren spoke about the legislature ending today.  3 of the 4 bills introduced were passed.  $90, 000 for Eckles renovation, $24,000 for ITT, and $35,000 to MASA.  It was very effective.

b.    President Martinez says we have hit the 1 million dollar mark for lobbying for money for WNMU. 

c.    Senator Cordova spoke about American Nation Government class with be holding an open forum Wednesday March 12, 2008 in the library. 

d.    Senator Stevenson spoke about the SADD Club getting with David G. and sponsoring a DUI Task Force event with Corre Caminos.  You have to be 21 years of age.  If you would like to help out see Molina, Stevenson, or Ortega.  It will be Saturday March 12, 2008.
