Student Senate Meeting Minutes

April 20, 2005

I. Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 8:34 P.M. by V.P. Rutherford.

II. Opening Ceremonies

Pro Tempore Frost led the pledge of allegiance.

III. Roll Call

A. Senate Present: Pro Tempore Frost, Floor Leader Burdette, Senate Secretary Z. Wilson, Senator Bass, Senator Eckstein, Senator Martinez, Senator Maxwell, Senator Murillo, Senator Rachal, Senator Rodriguez, Senator Saucedo, Senator Vargas, Senator K. Wilson.

IV. Sergeant at Arms Appointment

V.P. Rutherford appointed Senator K. Wilson as Sergeant at Arms.

V. Approval of Agenda

A. April 20, 2005

V.P. Rutherford entertained a motion to approve the agenda for April 20, 2005. Senator Rodriguez so moved, Senator Martinez seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

VI. Approval of Minutes

A. April 8, 2005

V.P. Rutherford entertained a motion to approve the minutes of April 8, 2005. Pro Tempore Frost so moved, Senator Vargas seconded. Motion passed 12-0-1.

VII. Reports

A. Senator Bass gave a report on S.P.O.T. Shirts and flyers are going to be made to let students know what S.P.O.T is. S.P.O.T. stands for students providing optional transportation. It is a transport service for intoxicated students. Will have an open forum before the semester is over.

B. Floor Leader Burdette added that there would be a panel for S.P.O.T. and that the program is volunteer based. There will also be surveys. Invited other senators to help make S.P.O.T. successful for next year.

C. V.P. Rutherford gave a report on the Great Race committee and would like to thank all the people who participated on the committee.

VIII. Old Business

A. Approval of Minutes March 16, 2005

V.P. Rutherford entertained a motion to approve the minutes of March 16, 2005. Senator Martinez so moved, Senator Maxwell seconded. Motion passed 11-0-2.

IX. New Business

A. Matching funds for SAAC Club ($240.00)

V.P. Rutherford asked if there was a representative of the SAAC club. There was. Senator Bass asked what the fund raiser was. Representative Suzie Bruchhauser stated that it was from a raffle of sports memorabilia, and that all the money was being donated to make a wish foundation. V.P. Rutherford then entertained a motion to approve the matching funds. Senator Martinez so moved, Senator Bass seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

B. Matching funds for Alpha Pi Sigma ($254.00)

V.P. Rutherford asked if there was a representative present. There was none. V.P. Rutherford then entertained a motion to approve the funds. Senate Secretary Z. Wilson so moved, Senator Saucedo seconded. Motion passed 10-0-3

C. Matching funds for the Criminal Justice Club ($479.33)

V.P. Rutherford asked if there was a representative present. There was none. Senate Secretary Z. Wilson then explained that this bill was an amendment to an error made previously on a bill for the Criminal Justice Club. He stated that he had spoken to Treasurer Stillman and it had his approval to amend the errors. V.P. Rutherford then entertained a motion to approve the funds. Senator Rodriguez so moved, Senator Saucedo seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

D. Matching funds for Hot Rod Club ($118.00)

V.P. Rutherford asked if there was a representative present. There was. Senator Bass asked what the fund raiser was. The representative replied that it was from oil changes. V.P. Rutherford then entertained a motion to approve the funds. Senator Maxwell so moved, Senator Bass seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

E. Executive Scholarships

Pro Tempore Frost made a motion to table the bill. Senator Martinez seconded. Motion passed 10-2-1

X. Announcement

A. Senator Maxwell announced that the CMA club was working on setting up a self defense class on April 30. He invited people to attend.

B. Senator Murillo announced that on Saturday that people would be volunteering at the animal shelter and she invited people to join.

C. Susie Bruchhauser announced that this Saturday announced that BSU was going to have a car wash from 10-3 and she invited people to support the BSU.

D. Victor Carbajal announced that the Great Race team TKB would like to thank the Senate for a good Great Race.

E. Treasurer Stillman asked to add him to the next agenda to announce his report. He also stated to the Senate that they need to be more careful with the matching fund bills and make sure that the money gets deposited.

F. Simon Sotello III announced that the Tour de Gila wants volunteers for the race on April 30.

G. Rene Graham announced that she had a petition to re-open the café on the third floor.

XI. Adjournment

V.P. Rutherford entertained a motion to adjourn the meeting. Senator Rodriguez so moved, Senator Saucedo seconded. Motion passed unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 8:53 P.M.
