Student Senate Meeting Minutes

February 2, 2005

I.          Call to order

            Meeting was called to order at 8:30 p.m. by Vice President Rutherford.

II.         Opening ceremonies

            Pro Tempore Frost led the Pledge of Allegiance.

III.       Roll call

A.        Senate Present:  Pro Tempore Frost,  Senate Secretary Medeguari, Senator Bass, Senator Murillo, Senator Rodriguez, Senator Vargas, Senator K. Wilson and Senator Z. Wilson.

            Floor Leader Burdette and Senator Rachal were absent.

IV.       V.P. Rutherford appointed Senator Rodriguez as Sergeant at Arms.

V.        Senator Rodriguez moved to approve the minutes for February 2, 2005. 

VI.       Senator Vargas moved to approve the minutes for January 26, 2005.  Senator K. Wilson seconded.  Motion passed unanimously.

VII.      Reports

VP Rutherford reported on the Public Service Committee who had a successful giving tree during the holidays.  He wanted to thank Billy Fallstich and Am Bank for their last minute gift donations.  He also mentioned that the Lobbying committee had a successful trip to Santa Fe this past Monday.

VIII.     New Business  

            a. Appointments

i. Senator Rodriguez moved by acclamation to approve Abraham Martinez as Senator.

ii. Senator Rodriguez moved by acclamation to approve Steve Maloney as Senator.  Senate Secretary Medeguari opposed on the basis that she felt an entire vote would be a better choice.

Senator Rodriguez moved to vote by roll call. Senate Secretary seconded the motion.  The motion passed 4 to 2 to 2.

                                                      Motion passed unanimously.                

VP Rutherford announced to the Senate that voting by acclamation was a way to vote unanimously with one motion, no roll call vote needed.

iii. Senator Rodriguez by acclamation to approve Nick Stiver as Attorney General.  Motion carried.

X. Announcements

Senate Secretary Medeguari announced that Dr. Gail Gruber is still the Student Senate advisor.  She thanked her for continuing to support the Student Senate.

Senator Rodriguez congratulated and welcomed the new Senators and Attorney General.

President Fallstich swore in the new officers.

Senator K. Wilson announced for new appointees to please stay after the meeting to have pictures taken.

XI. Adjournment

Senator Rodriguez moved to adjourn at 8:38 pm.  Senator Vargas seconded.  Motion carried unanimously.
