Student Senate Meeting Minutes

March 4, 2005

I.          Call to order

            Meeting was called to order at 1:07 p.m. by Vice President Rutherford.

II.         Opening ceremonies

            Pro Tempore Frost led the Pledge of Allegiance.

III.       Roll call

A.        Senate Present:  Pro Tempore Frost, Floor Leader Burdette,  Senate Secretary Medeguari, Senator Bass, Senator Maloney, Senator Martinez, Senator Murillo, Senator Rachal, Senator Rodriguez, and Senator K. Wilson.

            Senator Vargas and Senator Z. Wilson were not present.

IV.       V.P. Rutherford appointed Senator Murillo as Sergeant at Arms.

V.        VP Rutherford entertained a motion to approve the agenda for March 4, 2005.  Senator Murillo so moved.  Senator Maloney seconded.  There was no discussion.  Motion passed unanimously.

VI.       VP Rutherford entertained a motion to approve the minutes for February 16, 2005.  Senator Bass moved for approval of the minutes.  Senator Rachal seconded.  Motion passed unanimously.

VII.      Senator Maloney reported on behalf of the foods committee.  His committee met this past Monday and discussed the different kind of food that would

            Pro Tempore Frost stated that the Appeals committee met on Wednesday to discuss conduct of an individual.  Any other information must remain confidential.

            Senator Martinez announced that the Lobbying and Grants committee went to Santa Fe and was able to

            Senator Maloney gave a report on the Honors committee.  The main goal is to increase enrollment for next semester.  He stated that Fall 2005 will see the most Honors programs ever offered. They are trying to recruit students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher to join the program.

VIII.     Old Business   

a. VP Rutherford entertained a motion to approve Kyle Hayes as ASWNMU Treasurer.  Senator Maloney moved to do so.  Senator K. Wilson seconded.  The floor was open for discussion.  Senator Bass asked if the appointee was present. Mr. Hayes was not present. The floor was closed for discussion.  Motion failed 0 to 9 to 1.

b. VP Rutherford entertained a motion to approve Travis Holt as ASWNMU Secretary.  Senator Rachal so moved.  Senator Maloney seconded.  The floor was open for discussion.  Senator Bass asked if the appointee was present.  Mr. Holt was not present.  The floor was closed for discussion. Motion failed 3 to 6.

c. VP Rutherford entertained a motion to approve Holly Renner as Senator.  Senator Maloney so moved.  Senator Martinez seconded.  The floor was opened for discussion.  Senator Bass asked if the appointee was present.  Ms. Renner was not present.  The floor was closed for discussion. Motion failed 2 to 7 to 1.

d. VP Rutherford entertained a motion to approve Terry Doolittle as Chief Justice.  Senate Secretary Medeguari so moved.  Pro Tempore Frost seconded.  Senator Bass asked if the appointee was present.  Mr. Doolittle was present.  Motion unanimously.

e. Appointment for Karie Weisenberg resulted in no vote because the appointee had withdrawn her application for Senator prior to the meeting.

f. VP Rutherford entertained a motion to approve matching funds for the Math and Computer club.  Senator Murillo moved to approve.  Senator Rachal seconded.  The floor was opened for discussion.  After no discussion, the motion passed unanimously.

g. VP Rutherford entertained a motion to approve matching funds for the Nursing Club.  Senator Bass asked if there was a representative of the club present.

The representative of the nursing club announced that the matching funds were from a raffle and hot chocolate/coffee sale.

Senate secretary Medeguari moved to approve the Nursing Club funds.  Senator K. Wilson seconded.  Motion passed unanimously.

IX.       New Business

a. VP Rutherford entertained a motion to approve matching funds for Gamma Alpha Gamma Psi.  He asked AG Stiver these matching funds were brought to him.  AG Stiver said he had not received them.  Senator Bass moved to approve the matching funds.  Senator Rodriguez seconded.  Motion passed 9 to 1.

X.       

XI. Adjournment

Senator Vargas moved to adjourn at 9:03 pm.  Senator Rodriguez seconded.  Motion carried unanimously.
