Student Senate Meeting Minutes

May 09, 2005

 

I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 8:53 P.M. by V.P. Bruchhauser.

II. Opening Ceremonies Senator K. Wilson led the pledge of allegiance.

III. Roll Call

A. Senate Present: Senator Davis, Senator Greer, Senator Hill, Senator Madara, Senator Maloney, Senator Martinez, Senator Morrison, Senator Rodriguez, Senator Saucedo, Senator Scott, Senator K. Wilson, Senator Z. Wilson, Senator Wright

IV. Sergeant at Arms Appointment V.P. Bruchhauser appointed Senator Martinez as Sergeant at Arms.

V. Approval of Agenda

A. May 09, 2005

V.P. Bruchhauser entertained a motion to approve the agenda for May 09, 2005. Senator Martinez so moved, Senator Greer seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

VI. Approval of Minutes

A. May 04, 2005

V.P. Bruchhauser entertained a motion to approve the minutes of May 04, 2005. Senator Martinez so moved, Senator Wright seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

VII. Old Business

A. Swearing in of Senator Ryen Chief Justice Doolittle swore in Dan Ryen, and after that he tookhis seat on the Senate.

VIII. New Business

A. Matching Funds for Criminal Justice Club ($229.25)

Senator Maloney presented the bill to the floor. He stated that he fixed the errors that were made to the clubs matching funds, and this bill made sure that the club got there rightful money. Senator Martinez asked if there was a representative from the Criminal Justice Club. There was none. V.P. Bruchhauser then entertained a motion to approve the funds. Senator Martinez so moved, Senator Saucedo seconded. Motion passed 13-0-1

B. Matching funds for Alpha Phi Sigma ($240.34)

Senator Maloney presented the bill to the floor. He stated that this bill was also written to correct the errors made to there matching funds this semester. V.P. Bruchhauser entertained a motion for approval. Senator Martinez so moved, Senator Davis seconded. Motion passed 13-0-1

C. Summer Budget ($500)

President Carbajal gave a report that there would be on open P.O.

to Wal-Mart for $500.00. This P.O. would be used to buy whatever supplies the offices need. He stated that any money that was not used would be put back into ASWNMU funds. V.P. Bruchhauser made a motion to approve the summer budget for $500.00 on the stipulation that any money not used will be returned. Senator Rodriguez so moved, Senator Hill seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

D. Executive Council summer salary

V.P. Bruchhauser opened to floor to debate. Senator Rodriguez moved for a five minute recess. Senator Martinez seconded.

Motion passed unanimously. Senate recessed at 9:03. Senate Reconvened at 9:10. The senate asked for clarification from President Carbajal on his salary. He stated that his was a monthly salary of $600.00 and that the other executive officers would receive salaries based on the number of hours they work. They would be paid $5.00 an hour and there total earnings were not to exceed $350.00. V.P. Bruchhauser entertained a motion to approve the Executive Council summer salary. Senator Martinez so moved, Senator Saucedo seconded. Motion passed 13-0-1

IX. Announcement

A. Senator K. Wilson announced that the renaming ceremony for the Student Memorial Building would be on Thursday at 3:00. She encouraged people to attend.

B. Senator Maloney announced members are needed for the Student Handbook and Food committees.

C. Senator Ryen asked how many senators are staying over the summer break.

D. Senator K. Wilson announced that a special Senate meeting would be held in the Senate chambers after this meeting.

XI. Adjournment

V.P. Bruchhauser entertained a motion to adjourn the meeting. Senator Saucedo so moved, Senator Hill seconded. Motion passed unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 9:19 P.M.
