ASWNMU SENATE MEETING I. Call to Order B. Vice President Denton yielded the chair to Pro Tempore Preston. II. Pledge of Allegiance III. Roll Call B. Senator Powers was named as the Sargent of Arms. IV. Approval of Agenda B. Floor Leader Gomez moved to approve the agenda and Senator Romano seconded. The motion carried 14-0. V. Approval of the Minutes B. Senator Romano moved to approve the minutes from November 7, 2001, and Senator Rice seconded. The motion carried 14-0. VI. Executive Council Reports B. Vice President Denton reported that the Graduation Cords were ordered and it came out to $8.95 each for 10. She also stated that New Mexico Highlands University, New Mexico Tech, and New Mexico State are allowed to drink alcohol in their dorms if the person is over the age of 21. In our handbook it says that it is the state law that alcohol is not allowed in the dorms. Vice President Denton would like ASWNMU to look into this issue. C. Secretary Ambriz said that the business cards are in and for all the Senators to get theirs after the meeting. D. Treasurer Castillo was absent. E. Attorney General Hazlett reported that the Senate has the chance to match funds for the first time. Title V Peer Leaders and the Biology Club are requesting a match for their fundraisers. F. Governmental Affairs Director Rutherford had no report. G. Public Relations Officer Bocanegra said that he is keeping the ASWNMU bulletin boards up to date. He also said The Mustang is out and the next issue will be out on Tuesday, November 20, 2001. H. Committee Reports
VII. Old Business VIII. New Business B. Dr. Farren spoke to the Senate regarding the Health Center hours. He would like to have a mail in survey, but students do not update their addresses or phone numbers. C. Senator Powers requested that the Senate allocate $150.00, to pay back Barbara Flores in the Athletic Department. She lent the money to Senator Powers for the W.N.M.U. mascot. Senator Powers is still in the process of getting money from different sponsors and will pay the Senate back most of the money. Senator Rice moved to allocate $150.00, to Barbara Flores for the mascot and Senator Franzoy seconded. The motion passed 14-0. IX. Announcements B. Secretary Ambriz announced that he will not be in his office the following Friday, November 16, because of a Criminal Justice field trip to El Paso, Texas. C. Pro Tempore Preston said the next caucus will be Tuesday, November 27, 2001, and the next Senate meeting will be December 5, 2001. X. Adjournment |
