Active collaborative learning is more engaging, personal, applicable, critical and longer lasting than many other methods. Students have the opportunity to reflect, develop and refine learning skills, enjoy learning in collaboration with others, their teachers, and their communities (Pineau, E. 2002, NCREL 2004).

Participants in the learning community:
· Exchange ideas
· Co-create
· Negotiate
· Actively participate
· Respect each other’s ideas and viewpoints
· Communicate
