Mission Statement

We at Western New Mexico University Preschool/Child Development Center are committed to setting up an environment that respects and appreciates the uniqueness of each child and family.

  • Awareness, respect, sensitivity, and appreciation for diversity that cuts across gender, class, race, culture, language and exceptionality will be our goal.

  • The curriculum reflects congruency between school and child and the family structure, it is child-centered and developmentally appropriate.

  • We believe our curriculum will enhance the child's awareness of social justice.

The Preschool/Child Development Center at Western New Mexico University...
  • Is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childcare Programs.
  • Developmentally appropriate curriculum focuses on individualizing and maximizing opportunities for young children's thinking and achievement by developing the "whole child".
  • Serves as a laboratory site to provide field experiences for WNMU students, allowing the student to integrate knowledge and skills in a quality setting.
  • Is committed to setting up an environment that respects and appreciates the uniqueness and diversity of each child and family.
  • Staff demonstrates proactive leadership, as they serve as mentors, model teachersand advocates for the early childhood profession.
