1. How did CMA get started?
A collection of individuals associated with United Campus Ministry came together and under the guidance of the UCM minister, interest was developed and the club formed.

2. How long has CMA been formed?
The club has existed since Spring 2005.

3. Do you have to be a member of the club to participate in the workouts?
No. The physical study of the art of Kung Fu takes place at the gym in the dance studio. We study on Tuesdays and Thursday s from 4:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. with our sifu Nick Debona. But you must be a college student.

4. How much is the charge for attending a class in Kung Fu?
The charge is given by our instructor Nick Debona and is willing to work with anyone on an individual basis.

5. Who instructs the Kung Fu Martial Arts class?
Our instructor (sifu) is Nick Debona. He has been practicing and teaching the martial arts for over 30 year, and has experience with a variety of martial arts styles and traditional weapons.

6. Can you tell me more about the history of martial arts and religion?
While various cultures have developed their own martial and fighting arts, our modern martial arts have their roots in China. From China, the systematic styles have taken hold in other cultures and developed their unique differences. Interestingly, it is claimed the first group of westerners to study martial arts formally in the west was when a group from the United Methodist Church in Hawaii in the 1920's as a group took lessons.

7. Are there different levels provided in our class of Kung Fu Martial Arts?
Traditionally there are no levels, with a black sash being given to recognize advanced skill. Today, the belt system has developed and is found in many styles, each belt recognizing a specific level of skill and training, as well as a charge to test and receive a belt. In this class of Kung Fu our instructor will give out belts, based on training and sparing, and will not charge a fee for the testing of the belt.

Criteria For Membership

1. Students must sign a waiver to participate in any training.
2. Must be willing to participate in tow events described in our constitution.
