H. Senate Bill for approval to amend Article III Section I & II
of the ASWNMU Bylaws regarding Senate Scholarships. (Molina &
Molano)
a. Motioned by Molina, seconded by Molano
b. Discussion- Molina- Senators need to take monetary value of their
position. Senators should benefit the student body in what they do.
They should put more care in position rather than the money. Feels
there is a sense of abuse with amount of work put in by senators.
$10.00 per hour is a good wage and is taken advantage of.
Stevenson- Would like to see better and not so simple plan that will
work better in the future. In the future the wages will not be competitive
because of inflation and will make future senators look greedy if
they increase scholarship.
Arturo Monje- Feels Stevenson’s argument is somewhat valid but
in the future it can be amended.
Ben Domke- Comments that senators will not look greedy it is the same
as student fees.
Pool- Asks if future senators do increase scholarship will it be frowned
on?
Molina- Recaps why he sponsored the bill. Wants senators to ask themselves
why they are really in their position, for the money or the experience?
Monje- Answers Pool’s question, he does not think that future
senators will be frowned upon.
Molano- Agrees with Arturo, it will be necessary in the future
Albert Sandoval- Comments on Stevenson’s comment on inflation.
Inflation is really complicated and hard to adjust to.
Spradlin- Does agree that senators need to do more.

Estrada)

Molano- Thinks it is ironic that senators are willing to support bill
on regulating clubs funds but not senators pay.
c. Motion passes 6-0-6
J. Senate Bill for approval to amend Article V Section IV of the ASWNMU
Constitution regarding G.P.A of ASWNMU officers. (Molina & Molano)
a. Motioned by Molina, seconded by Molano
b. Discussion- Molina- Firmly believes that ASWNMU senators are elected
to be leaders and G.P.A. should be important. Some people might be
threatened by bill but feels G.P.A is prime evidence of motivation.
Stevenson-Senators are not leaders they are representatives. Some
people are not book smart but that does not mean they can not represent
students.
Abraham Martinez- Bill is going to hurt a lot of ASWNMU senators.
Staff commented that if you dont have a 2.25 then you should be more
dedicated to school.
Stevenson- Would like to see more research. How many times have minutes
been messed up or minutes have been passed with mistakes. Nothing
that the so called smart people have showed me how they have improved
ASWNMU.
c. Motion fails 4-7-1
K. Senate Bill for approval to amend Article V Section V.A of the
ASWNMU Constitution regarding Executive scholarships. (Molina &
Molano)
a. Motioned by Molina, seconded by Molano
b. Discussion- Ben Domke- encourages senate to approve bill. Believes
that being a part of Executive Council builds your resume.
Stevenson- comments on how it is the same problem with the last bill.
It is too simple and needs more research.
Chris Schofield- agrees with Ben Domke.
Stevenson- comments on Executive Council being over paid for amount
of time put in position.
Ben Domke- Comments on how Executive Council does most of the traveling
which has a great benefit.
Abraham- Disagrees with Ben because traveling has so much wear on
personal vehicle. $30.00 a day for food is not enough in Santa Fe.
They have also brought over $1 million to WNMU in the recent years.
Edwards- No one is forcing Senators to take the money.
Abraham-Both parties have good arguments so he urges senators to think
the decision through.

his salary but unfortunately the previous president did not do the

be office hours.
