I. Call to Order
A. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Denton at 8:35 PM.

II. Opening Ceremonies
A. Pledge of Allegiance led by Pro Tempore Preston.

III. Roll Call
A. Senators Bruchhauser, Burdette, Franzoy, Gomez, Goodliffe, Jensen, Ortiz, Powers, Preston, Rice, Romano, Spur, Talimatasi, Zankich were all present. Senator Romano was name Sergeant at Arms.

IV. Approval of Agenda
A. Due to the small meeting room and the large number of students representing their clubs, it was decided to move new business before Executive Council Reports. Pro Tempore Preston moved to place new business before Executive Council Reports. Senator Romano seconded. The motion carried 14-0.

B. Attorney General Hazlett announced that the Wrestling Club, Sociology Club, and Psi Chi needed to be added to the list of clubs being recognized. Floor Leader Gomez moved to approve adding the three clubs to the list. Senator Zankich seconded. The motion carried 14-0.

V. Approval of the Minutes
A. Floor Leader Gomez moved to approve the minutes of September 12, 2001. Senator Powers seconded. The motion carried 14-0.

VI. Executive Council Reports
A. President Zuniga reminded everyone that Paint the "W" is this weekend and to please attend. She stated that the Homecoming King and Queen nominations ballots are all over campus and to please vote. President Zuniga needs the Senate to think of themes for Great Race and Homecoming 2002. President Zuniga talked about the trip to Socorro, NM, for the Associated Students of New Mexico conference. She said that is was wonderful and they really learned a lot. Some of the topics brought up by President Zuniga were lobbying for equipment, for a tax-free bookstore in the beginning of the school year, for faculty and staff, and for library funding.

B. Vice President Denton said that she still needs biographies from a few Senators. She also made a Student Government contact list and handed them out.

C. Secretary Ambriz made the following comments:
--First of all, I want to thank everyone for coming to this Senate meeting especially because we are having this meeting in a "little" sardine can compared to the conference room
--Secondly, Thank you Senators for allocating the necessary funds, so we [ASWNMU] can attend the ASNM conference in Socorro, NM. The conference was beneficial to all those who attended. Many important issues were dealt with. Western was not under minded in any way, shape, or form because we stood firm in our decision-making. Also, other universities/community colleges were intimidated because we [ASWNMU] did not "give in" on their ideological approach to handling the issues at hand, i.e. proposals to legislature.
--Thirdly, I wanted to know if all the Senators have come in contact with the necessary chairperson of their particular committee. The Senators who haven't made contact yet, could you please come and see me in my office when the time permits; hence, tomorrow.
--In addition, I have appointed 4 positions in the committee realm.

1. Keeping on tangent of Senate Binders, I like to address: Floor Leader Gomez, Senator Powers, Senator Rice, and Senator Romano because they are still lacking even one description in their appropriated folders. This issue is being addressed once again because the "pay period" ended on September 14, 2001, and here we are two weeks later with no solid proof of work.
2. This next comment is in regard to Pro Tempore Preston and Senator Goodliffe because you two filled out the necessary information and I want to thank you, but you forgot to put your name in the designated place. What happens if the paper accidentally falls out from the binder and is swept away, we have no way to find out whose it is unless there is a name.
--Tomorrow [Thursday, September 27, 2001] I will put up the office hours of each executive council member and also our wonderful work-study, Shanna Whalen.
--Thank you for allowing me to make my report and that concludes my Executive Council Report.

D. Treasurer Castillo said that the bike has been purchased for $344.00. He also said that the business cards have been ordered. Treasurer Castillo stated that out of the $1,100.00 for the Homecoming budget, only $135.00 has been spent. There is $8,400.00 left in the budget for the rest of the school year.

E. Attorney General Hazlett thanked the Senate for the opportunity to attend the ASNM Fall Conference in Socorro. Attorney General Hazlett received a letter from a student talking about his dissatisfaction with the meal plans. Attorney General Hazlett has reviewed the Sodexho contract and has met with the on site manager of the cafeteria and with the VPSA. All students at WNMU are eligible for at least one of the meal plans stipulated in the contract. The meal plans are as follows:

Meal plans D, E, and F may be used to purchase meals for guests.

F. Governmental Affairs Director Rutherford said that the Legislative Branch of New Mexico just got out of session so he is in the process of contacting them. GAD Rutherford is also attending an ASNM conference in Las Cruces, NM, in November.

G. Public Relations Officer Bocanegra said that Senator Rice, Jensen, and Spurr need to pick up their raffle tickets and the Senators need to take their money to Treasurer Costillo. He also announced that the Public Relations Committee needs to meet once a week.

VII. Old Business
A. Mariz Beatriz Giraldo has requested an allocation of funds from the commissions on vending machine sales account. Ms. Giraldo will be attending an international peace conference in India during October 2001. The requested funds will help pay for her travel expenses. Pro Tempor Preston moved to allocate $250.00, from the commissions on vending machine sales account to Mariz Beatriz Giraldo for her trip to India. Senator Talimatasi seconded the motion. The motion carried 14-0.

VIII.New Business
A. The following clubs, having satisfied all the requirements of Senate Standing Rule No. 11 and being represented at this meeting, are all eligible to be recognized by the ASWNMU Senate:

Pro Tempore Preston moved to recognize all seventeen clubs. Senator Talimatasi seconded the motion. The motion carried 14-0.

IX. Announcements
A. Dr. Farren said that there is a pilot study to take place for online registration. He also stated that he would like to buy some raffle tickets. Dr. Farren announced that the college is talking different companies about Health Insurance for our students.

B. Attorney General Hazlett announced that he will be selling raffle tickets during a cycling event at Penny Park on October 6, 2001, and needs volunteers. He also said that Twin Sisters Cycling on Bullard Avenue is selling raffle tickets to the community.

C. President Zuniga said that the raffle tickets would be sold at the volleyball games and at the talent show [Homecoming]. President Zuniga also commented on the process of naming a building on campus and that the student memorial building is a building in question and will come to the caucus [Tuesday, October 2, 2001] to discuss this in detail.

D. Senator Powers brought up his interest in fundraising for a mustang mascot.

E. It was announced that there will be a caucus at 8:15pm on Tuesday, October 2, 2001.

F. It was brought up that the next Senate meeting is scheduled for the week of Homecoming, so it was decided that the next Senate meeting would be scheduled for Wednesday, October 3, 2001.

X. Adjournment
A. Senator Talimatasi moved to adjourn the meeting. Senator Romano seconded. The motion carried 14-0. The meeting was adjourned at 9:58pm.
