WNMU Staff Senate Members |
I am Katherine Aguirre, the Administrative Secretary for the J. Cloyd Miller Library. I enthusiastically joined the Western NM University “family” in October 2004. I can happily confess that “The library is my favorite place to be.” It has been an honor to have served as a member of the following Committees: Staff Handbook, Staff Senate Election Rewards and Recognition New Employee Mentor & Support Rules & Ethics; as well as currently serving on the Salary, Classification & Benefits. It has always been my pleasure to work with such a great group of people that we have here at Western.
Hello! My name is Evelyn Alvarado. I have been employed at WNMU for 11 years, having worked in Academic Affairs for 10 of those years and just recently last year in my new position as the Program Manager for Operations & Compliance for Extended University. I am an alum of WNMU, having received my Associate’s degree in Office Administration in 2002 and my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 2007. I am currently a student again, majoring in Business Administration. While not at work or doing homework, I spend my spare time with my husband and my two beautiful children. I enjoy traveling and being outdoors as long as it involves being with my family and friends.
I am Melissa Busby, and I am newly elected Senator representing the Administrative classification. I started my journey at WNMU as a student, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology in 2000, and a Master's degree in Counseling in 2003. While I was a student, I actually served on the ASWNMU Senate. My journey at WNMU continued as an employee in 1999, when I was hired as a Hall Director at Ritch Hall. My family and I lived in Ritch for four years, and my boys still love to share their stories of "dorm life." In 2001, I landed the best counseling internship/ graduate assistant position in town at the Early Childhood programs, and have worked there ever since. Most recently, I was a faculty member and advisor for the AA program in ECED, and I became the Assistant Dean for Early Childhood Programs in January, 2012.
Hello Everyone! My name is Jessica Enriquez. I joined the WNMU community in the Spring of 2011, although I have really been part of WNMU since 2000. I completed a BA in Rehabilitation Services in 2006, and continued on with WNMU to complete my MA in Counseling in 2010. When I first came to WNMU in 2011 I was part of Extended University team. I now serve as student support for the Interdisciplinary Studies program. Throughout my entire 12 years of association with WNMU, I have been an active contributor to the Athletics Department, recording statistics and a variety of other activities. I am a long-time resident of Silver City and am proud to make it my home. When I do get free time, I enjoy spending it with my husband Matt and my hyper-active 6-year old Weimaraner, Naula. We are expecting our first child soon.
I work in the Virtual Campus as an instructional technologist. My title is Digital Media Specialist but my duties have evolved considerably since I was hired. I perform myriad tasks as they relate to all technical aspects of our online learning endeavors. I've been employed at WNMU for more than eight years where I started in the IT department. I live to travel the planet and play outdoors, especially near, in, on and under the water. One of my favorite outdoor activities is harassing aquatic lower vertebrate animals with a stick and string. One of my favorite indoor activities is viewing and manipulating long sequences of ones and zeros depicting outdoor occurances.
Hello! My name is Matthew G. Lara. I’ve enjoyed my time on Staff Senate. In the time I have served, I have come to know many people that work for the university here on the Silver City campus and at our other campuses in TorC, Deming, Lordsburg, and Gallup. I work as an Admissions Recruiter and I love my job! I enjoy living in Silver City mainly because of its proximity to the Gila National Forest and Wilderness. Most weekends you can find me fishing along the Gila River or on one of the local lakes.
I am a two time alum of Western New Mexico University. I have been employed with WNMU for 19 years. Over the years I have held positions in Multicultural Affairs, the President’s Office, the Business Office and am currently the Director of Special Events/Scheduling. In my spare time I enjoy reading and spending time with my family and friends.
Hello! My name is Mary-Rae McDonald. I am the newly appointed “Human Resource Specialist” within WNMU; although I have officially been with the University since 2008. I am currently a full-time student in the MBA program with full intentions to graduate this Spring 2013 and married to the most amazingly supportive cowboy-husband in the world with our beautifully capricious tween girl (only child). In my spare time, I adore pretty much anything. I want to at least try everything once! This is my first year with Staff Senate. I am currently chair of the Staff Handbook and Elections Committees, as well as serving on the New Employee Orientation Committee and the Appeals and Classification sub-Committee. I am honored to be a part of Staff Senate and am delighted to be representing such a dynamic classification as Clerical.
My name is Roberta Miller, and I am the Payroll Specialist for WNMU. I represent the clerical staff on Staff Senate. This is my first time being a Staff Senator. I began working for WNMU on February 1, 2010. I am “retired” from the legal profession having worked as a legal secretary, deputy district court clerk, court monitor, and as the secretary for two district judges. I also worked for a cpa firm for 6 1/2 years prior to coming to WNMU. I am a knitter, a marathon runner, and in the process of becoming a “weaver”. But the most important “after hours vocation” is being “Grandma Birdie” to my five grandchildren who range in age from 6 to 16. Grandma Birdie can ski (sort of!), she is an “extreme sledder” who can still pull lazy children up the hill on the sled, run, play tackle football, knit sweaters and blankets, and do tricks on the trampoline! I am truly blessed to be a part of WNMU and look forward to my term on the Staff Senate.
Hello. My name is Danielle Moffett and I am honored to serve as your Staff Senate President, I have been employed with WNMU since 2008. One benefit that I love about working at WNMU is the ability to continue as a student, trying many different courses. I believe we’re never really “done” learning. I began my work here in Admissions and am now the Director of Alumni Affairs. I love our southwest area and all it has to offer: the food, fabulous hiking, cycling, rich history, and the amazing people! In my off-time I enjoy yoga, almost any activity one can do outside, spending time with my wonderful husband, and baking. Cheers!
I am currently working in the Humanities Department at Western New Mexico University as an Administrative Secretary. When I started working for the University I was hired to work in the business office as an assistant to payroll manager and accounts payable manager. I was laid off for a couple of months and was rehired in 1998 to work in the Social Work department. In 2004 I transferred to my current position. My peers elected me to represent them as their staff senator for a two year term (2011-2013). I am in the rewards and recognition committee. In October 2011 I was elected employee of the month. |
