WNMU's Financial Aid program provides assistance to students based on financial
need and academic performance. Need-based assistance consists of grants,
loans, work-study, and scholarships. How much assistance the student receives
is based on a U.S. government formula which calculates the amount support
needed minus what the student's family should be able to provide. Performance-based
financial assistance consists of scholarships and work-study, and is entirely
based on a student's academic, athletic, or artistic skills. Students
who have completed a free application for federal student aid (FAFSA)
will be considered for scholarships that are awarded through the financial
aid office.

Notice to All Students
The Office of Financial Aid has updated its Standard of Academic Progress Policy for Undergraduates and Graduates
The updated policy is posted on the WNMU Home Page (www.wnmu.edu) at the Financial Aid link, under “Applying for Financial Aid”
All students are strongly advised to review the policy and be aware of the changes
Important information and deadlines to keep in mind, as you review the policy:
1. A student who fails to meet the standards of the FASAP policy will be placed on Financial Aid suspension. Only students who fail to meet the FASAP policy, because of unusual circumstances beyond their control, will have the right to appeal. Such circumstances include illness, death of an immediate family member, or an accident. Throughout the appeal process, however, the student must be prepared to pay his or her own educational expenses.
2. Appeals will be approved or disapproved by the Financial Aid Appeals Committee and all decisions are final. If an appeal is not based on extenuating circumstances, it will not be reviewed by the committee. The student will remain on Financial Aid suspension and will be responsible for their educational expenses, until FASAP standards are met.
3. Due to the holiday break, detailed appeal letters explaining your circumstances, must be post marked by December 26, 2011, to be accepted.
4. The Advisor’s Statement for appeal, 5 copies of supporting documentation, and 5 copies of your unofficial transcript must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office, by January 10, 2012.
5. Medical records used as supporting documentation, must be mailed directly from the physician’s office, and received in the Financial Aid Office, by January 10, 2012.
6. The Financial Aid Appeals Committee will meet on January 12, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. in the JCB conference room.
This information only highlights key points to be aware of. In order to get a full understanding of the policy, you must read the policy in its entirety.
