APPLICATION TIPS FOR
SUCCESS
Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA is the main application used for getting financial aid. Read the instruction guide in addition to the application directions when you fill out your FAFSA.
If you apply online, you may find it easier to fill out a paper application first. Financial Aid Resources has more information. On this and other sources of aid.
If you don’t understand, read it again. Here are some tips for completing your application:
Complete last year's federal tax return first (being early is of no value if your information is not correct).
Make certain the information on your
application MATCHES the figures from your federal tax return(s), W-2
form(s), and other 1999 income documentation.
Please make an appointment to see a Financial Aid Counselor if you are confused or have any doubts about the accuracy of your data.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

STEP 1 Fill out FAFSA (Federal Application For Student Financial Aid) & mail to processor. (Allow 4-6 weeks processing time). |
STEP 2
Submit WNMU Application and a copy of your current Federal Tax Forms & W-2(s). (Dependents submit Parent’s tax forms also). |
STEP 3
Student Aid Reports (SAR) will be mailed to the student. Check your SAR’s for any discrepancies of information. If the WNMU school code is included on application, your SAR’s will be received electronically. |
| STEP 4
WNMU will request all 1999 financial documents for verification |
STEP 5
Allow 2-3 weeks processing time AFTER the student has submitted their data. |
STEP 6
An award letter is mailed to qualifying students. If student does not qualify (for federal or state grants), a loan application will be mailed at this time. |
APPLYING FOR STUDENT LOANS?
(PLEASE NOTE: STEPS 1 THRU 6 MUST BE COMPLETED FIRST)

Certification of Loan Application takes 1-2 weeks. |
STEP C
An award letter is mailed to the student. |
STEP D
EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) received. If the student is enrolled, their account will be credited in Business Office. |
