Marcia BourdetteWelcome to the Graduate Studies program at Western New Mexico University.  Whether you are a current student or are simply exploring opportunities to further your education, I hope you find this web site informative and useful.  WNMU offers a diverse range of fully accredited graduate degree programs.  Although research and public service are important undertakings of the institution, teaching and learning are preeminent at WNMU.   We are a University that believes in the promise of every student, and together we work to create an educational community of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and talents that instills values and develops the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare our students for the challenges of a changing world.

Our faculty are highly trained scholars and professionals in their fields. They have developed rigorous programs that strive for excellence in the classroom and that rely on a tradition of one-on-one student mentorship, with faculty members providing individualized guidance for each of their students.  In addition to working closely with their faculty advisors, our graduate students can take advantage of WNMU’s resources, including its library and online databases, computer facilities, and research laboratories. 

Our goal is to help ensure that your graduate experience is a rewarding and successful one.  We will work with you to answer your questions and provide you with the information you need to select the graduate program or course of study that is right for you.

The Graduate Division of Western New Mexico University provides students with an opportunity for advanced study, research, and development of scholarship. Our Programs are intended to foster within graduate students professionalism, motivation to advance, and intellectual curiosity. Programs offered by the Graduate Division include:

Graduate students enrolled at WNMU Gallup are bound by the same degree and program requirements. Information regarding Gallup’s programs may be obtained by contacting the Gallup Graduate Studies Center in Gallup at (505) 722-3389.

Individual graduate programs are administered within each of the departments offering the graduate programs. Each graduate student works under the supervision of an advisor who is appointed by the department Chair, Dean or Program Director. The graduate faculty members in the respective programs are available to assist you, as is the Dean, Chair or Program Director of the School that sponsors your program. The Graduate Council develops policy governing the Graduate Division and the University’s graduate curriculum, and acts as an advisory body to the Director of the Graduate Division. The Director of the Graduate Division administers overall graduate policy, as well as admissions to degree candidacy. The Council will consist of one elected member from each department offering graduate programs, and one student member. The Graduate Council is chaired by a member elected by the Council. The Director of the Graduate Division is an ex officio, non-voting member.
