E STREET TO CLOSE FOR CONSTRUCTION ON CAMPUS

            SILVER CITY, N.M – Western New Mexico University will be closing a portion of E Street effective May 18, 2009 through June 2010 during construction of the new Juan Chacon Building expansion. 

The closure will affect the three-way intersection of College Avenue and E Street.  Only a portion of E Street will be closed at the site of the construction. 

The lower level Juan Chacon Building parking lot will be closed throughout the construction.  Campus visitors can access the Juan Chacon Building through the upper level parking lot.

WNMU met with the Silver City Fire Marshall’s Office and the Silver City Planning Department who assisted in determining the dates and location of the street closure. 

The $10 million project will include the renovation of the current Juan Chacon Building and the construction of a new building on campus.  The Nursing Department and distance learning programs will be housed in the new building.
