OPEN FORUM SCHEDULED FOR JCB CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

SILVER CITY, N.M – Western New Mexico University is hosting an open forum to discuss the Juan Chacon Building (JCB) construction project on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Global Resource Center Auditorium.

Members of the public are invited to attend and ask questions related to the project.  John Zamar, Acting Assistant Director of Maintenance; and Jim Redford of Redford Associates, the architectural firm working on the project, will be available for a question and answer session.

The Juan Chacon Building expansion and renovation project was initiated on May 18, 2009.  A portion of E street on campus has been closed for safety and security at the site of the construction. WNMU met with the Silver City Fire Marshall’s Office and the Silver City Planning Department who assisted in determining the dates and location of the street closure.

The $10 million project will include the renovation of the current Juan Chacon Building and the construction of a new building on campus.  The Nursing Department and distance learning programs will be housed in the new building.

Alamogordo-based White Sands Construction is the general contractor for the project.

Updates on the project are available at http://www.wnmu.edu.
