ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF NURSING POSITIONS

Applications are invited for two tenure-track faculty positions with a contract starting date of August 2008. Position responsibilities include advising, program development, assessment, university service, scholarly activity, community service and advisement of student organizations. During the interview candidates will make a thirty (30) minute class presentation on a topic selected by the search committee. Research, grant writing, experience on university, community, and professional committees and organizations, and previous teaching experience are desired. Previous successful interaction with diverse groups and proficiency in Spanish are preferred for all positions.


Nursing Department – Seeks Two Assistant Professors of Nursing (ADN Program). A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a licensure as a registered nurse to practice in New Mexico is required. Full time faculty in the Nursing Department assume responsibility for clinical and classroom teaching. They are responsible for the development of course syllabi, planning clinical experiences for students, evaluating students on a regular basis and preparing examinations for students. Each faculty member communicates with the department chairperson on a regular basis. Also, full time faculty assists with advising students on class scheduling and provides input for the development of curriculum and program evaluation. The faculty must develop a knowledge of the nursing curriculum at WNMU and be prepared to teach didactic content as well as supervise clinical teaching. Typical tasks include but are not limited to the following: preparation and revision of course syllabi; attendance at departmental meetings; evaluation of students; assistance with student advisement as necessary; participate in University committees as needed; maintain current clinical skills and theoretical knowledge through practice and attendance at educational meetings; contribute to the ongoing process of curriculum development and program evaluation; and prepare lecture and clinical experiences consistent with program objectives and philosophy. Principal accountabilities are to provide a role model for students and support for other faculty and staff in the department and maintain communication with other faculty and the department chair regarding issues affecting the department. Problem solving is available to faculty, staff and students who request assistance. Makes judgments necessary on an individual basis and refers issues to the Department Chair. Salary Range: $48,529 - $52,929</u>
