AES EDUCATION OUT-REACH / STUDENT ADVISOR/ LEADERSHIP COORDINATOR

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, counsels and advises students to develop a personalize an educational plan, coordinate Post-Secondary option program and plans, organizes and directs efforts and methods of delivering promotional information to the general public and designated audiences to promote the Adult Basic Education program. Directs community relations projects and activities, serves as a liaison between Adult Educational Services and Western New Mexico University regarding programs and student transitions and Supervise subordinate employees. This full time position develops and implements individual educational programs for each student in accordance with the State of New Mexico Adult Basic Education guidelines. Carefully evaluates and documents students’ progress. Effectively guides students in identifying potential career choices. Administers and interprets aptitude and proficiency tests in accordance with procedural guidelines. Accurately assesses training and educational needs of student and makes appropriate referrals. Monitors and tracks the progress of students’ career evaluations. Ensures job search plan is completed according to program outlines and appropriate for student’s occupational choice. Serves as a mentor of new students. Teaches program procedures in a professional manner. Assist in preparing correspondence, disseminating information and providing data as required. Regularly attends and contributes to conferences and meetings. Readily assist with special events, projects and activities. Display a high level of effort and commitment to performing work. Demonstrates eagerness to learn and assume responsibility; seeks out and accepts increased responsibility; displays a “can do” approach to work. Shows persistence and seeks alternatives when obstacles arise; seeks alternative solution; does things before being asked or forced to by events. Accepts direction and feedback from supervisors and follows through appropriately. Works when scheduled; begins and ends work as expected; calls in according to policy when arriving late for work or when absent; observes provisions of Fair Labor Standards Act. Uses work time effectively. Creates and maintains positive working relationships within the community by making presentations to schools, churches, civic groups, etc. to educate them on the Adult Basic Education Services. Collaborates with planning and advisory groups in evaluation of community needs that are not being met by available resources and services. Participates in the development of coordination of resources and services to meet those needs. Actively participates or assures appropriate representation on various local committees, boards and task forces in order to develop and maintain community partnerships designed to meet identified needs. Promotes Adult Basic Education program to members of the community through personal appearances, subordinate representatives, educational programs and press releases as appropriate. Approves release of specific information to local news media. Performs recruitment activities and provides information for business and the community at large as needed. Coordinates meetings and establishes agendas. Communicates regularly with staff on progress toward defined goals and /or required results, providing specific feedback and initiating correction action. Motivates staff to improve quantity and quality of work performed and provides training and development opportunities an appropriate. Provide Student Leadership debriefing/planning and training meetings. Provide the building blocks for effective student leadership. Provide techniques to take and active student leadership role in the community. Provide techniques for student leaders to effectively communicate. Promote the importance of enhancing important life skills. Promote to the student leaders the importance of organizational skills and performs all related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED with 45 or more college credit hours towards an Associates degree in any area with two (2) years experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Knowledge of Spanish and some experience with diverse groups is preferred. Proficiency with all programs that are part of the Microsoft Office suite. Strong people as well as written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of and familiarity with local business, educational, governmental, and religious figures and organizations preferred. Valid New Mexico driver’s license or ability to obtain one.

SALARY: $23,660 - $25,000 – GRANT FUNDED
