Applications are invited for a tenure-track faculty position with a contract starting date of August 2007. Position responsibilities include advising, program development, assessment, university service, scholarly activity, community service and advisement of student organizations. During the interview candidates will make a thirty (30) minute class presentation on a topic selected by the search committee. Research, grant writing, experience on university, community, and professional committees and organizations, and previous teaching experience are desired. Previous successful interaction with diverse groups and proficiency in Spanish are preferred for all positions.

The School of Education (SOE) is recruiting applicants with background and experience in working with culturally and linguistically diverse students for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position in Special Education to begin August 2007 with possible summer employment. The SOE is the largest academic unit at WNMU and its undergraduate and graduate programs are NCATE accredited.

Responsibilities: Teach and supervise a 12 credit undergraduate and graduate hour load per semester in undergraduate and master’s level courses in Special Education theory and practice to prepare teachers for state certification at the K-12 level, supervise clinical experiences, advise students in all program areas of the SOE, provide service to the university and profession and collaborate with colleagues in curriculum development of Special Education, assist with NCATE accreditation, work closely with K-12 schools, serve on University, departmental and other committees, participate in assessment, recruitment, and retention initiatives. The candidate must understand the realities of teaching in rural and high-poverty schools with elementary, middle, and high school students with high-incidence disabilities from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The candidate must also be knowledgeable about research-based practices for preparing quality professionals who can deliver differentiated core standards-based curriculum to students with varied learning and behavior needs. Provide service to the profession in community and professional organizations and seek grants to support curriculum and program development.

Minimum Qualifications: Successful teaching experience in K-12 public schools (3 years preferred) with diverse racial and linguistic populations. An earned doctorate in Special Education from a regionally accredited institution or university (ABD will be considered). Successful experience working with teacher preparation programs; outstanding record of university teaching; and experience teaching students with disabilities (e.g. learning disabilities, mild cognitive disabilities emotional/behavioral disorders including students with autism); knowledgeable about differentiated teaching and learning strategies, instructional accommodations and modifications for diverse learners; knowledge of multicultural education and background in working with diverse student populations in P-12 and higher education; and experience supervising students in special education field experiences and internship placements. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in teaching in web-based and instructional television environments as well as traditional classrooms is preferred. Candidates should have demonstrated potential for contributions to the advancement of equitable education through research, innovative instruction, successful record of program development, experience with student recruitment, programs development, service to the community and teaching cross-categorical special education teaching methods and/or behavior management classes. Salary: $42,756 - $44,301
