EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, prepares a variety of nutritional meals in compliance with established standards, regulations, and requirements. This part-time position (35 hours per week) is instrumental to the design and implementation of a well-balanced and healthy food program appropriate for young children. The planning and preparation of breakfast, lunch, and snacks will need to be in accordance with the Federal Regulations required by the Child and Adult Care Food Program. This position at the Early Childhood Programs/Child Development Center prepares daily meals for young children planned menus in accordance with all nutritional guidelines and requirements according to documentation; performs a variety of food preparation, set-up, and production activities; prepares and serves breakfast, lunch and snacks to the children. Prepares menus using the assistance of planned menus and recipes; records food items used and the amounts served each day; arrive early in order to prepare breakfast and set up for children to be served by 8:30 a.m.; set up for lunch for all Center children to be served between 11:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. (noon); responsible for cleanup and maintenance of the kitchen including sanitizing cooking/prep equipment, trays, cutlery, dishes and glasses in accordance with sanitizing regulations/requirements; disposes of both food and non food debris; ensures preparation and delivery of afternoon snack prior to leaving for the day. Follows safety and sanitation regulations; maintains serving standards set by CACFP; maintains accurate inventory of food and supplies for snack, breakfast, and lunch; and assists with nutrition education activities for children. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of kitchen areas and equipment; reviews inventory levels of perishable and non-perishable food items based on upcoming menu specifications; prepares shopping list and obtains necessary food items shopping local stores; works closely and cooperatively with Teachers and Teacher’s Assistants for review, selection, and substitution of menu items based on requests from children; participates in regular staff meetings; attends yearly training and performs other duties as assigned by management. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit upon completion of the 90 day trial period.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must have good written and oral communication skills and a willingness to learn. Upon employment an FBI criminal records background check, current TB test record and a valid NM driver’s license must be on file.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with food preparation for large groups including basic nutrition, food sanitation and safety, food selection and preparation, organization and management, child nutrition and record keeping preferred. Proficiency in Spanish and professional experience with diverse groups.
RATE OF PAY : $7.75 hourly
