SOE NeTL FACULTY DEVELOPER, VISITING FACUTLY POSITION

Applications are invited for a visiting, non-tenure-track faculty position with a contract starting June 2008.  This position responsibility includes advising, program development, assessment, university service, scholarly activity, community service and advisement of student organizations.  All candidates will be expected to make a thirty-minute (30) presentation in an actual faculty development situation at the time of interview.  The topic will be the choice of the screening committee.  Interest in research, publications, and securing grants; experience on university committees or related community organizations; participation in state/national professional organizations; and previous teaching experience in higher education is preferred.

The School of Education (SOE) is recruiting applicants with background and experience in Online Faculty Development for a 12-month faculty position to begin June or August 2008 with possible summer employment.  The SOE is the largest academic unit at WNMU, and its undergraduate and graduate programs are NCATE accredited.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Help the SOE Dean with administration of the Network for Web-based Teacher Licensure project (NeTL) and assist SOE faculty members in adapting and delivering their courses online using WebCT.  Teach online professional development courses to SOE faculty and to teachers statewide, and work one-on-one and in small groups with faculty and teachers on effective instructional design for online and web-enhanced courses.  Design and plan the development of online courses; monitor the course development process to meet course offering deadlines; monitor course integrity as it relates to subject matter and to state and federal standards and benchmarks; review courses for subject matter, writing, editing and assessments; collaborate on revisions and continuing course development and maintenance.  Create, field test, implement and analyze surveys and forms; maintain records for online course adaptation and delivery; write reports to the Higher Education Department; edit a newsletter; assist in marketing of NeTL; and make presentations about the project.  Research and disseminate best practices in online learning, emerging technologies, instructional design theories, and policies.  Remain current with and have a thorough understanding of the latest technology tools and trends in online education, and implement improvements.  Supervise and monitor work performance of a graduate assistant.  Other duties include assisting with NCATE accreditation, serving on University, departmental and other committees, and participating in assessment, recruitment and retention initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  An earned doctorate in Instructional Design, Instructional/Educational Technology, Distance Learning, Communication, Curriculum and Instruction, Organizational Development or related area from a regionally accredited institution or university (ABD candidates will be considered).  A minimum of one year teaching in an academic discipline and one year work experience as Faculty Developer, Instructional Designer, or Distance Learning Coordinator is required.  Extensive knowledge of current and emerging instructional technologies, and an in-depth understanding of pedagogical issues related to online teaching and learning in are needed.  Applicant must demonstrate proficiency with a course management system such as WebCT or BlackBoard and have experience in the following areas:  instructional design and learning theory, design of distance learning instructional materials, Internet-based educational technologies.  Required skills include excellent organizational skills, verbal and written communications skills, effective presentation skills, and computing skills.  Demonstrated knowledge of current techniques and procedures for designing, developing and evaluating instructional methods, programs, materials and instruments is required.  Ability to work well with others, including technology specialists, faculty, and staff, and knowledge of and experience with multicultural populations.

PRFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:   Preference will be given for instructional or training design experience in distance education in a higher education setting and with diverse groups.  Significant experience with instructional design and teaching in web-based and instructional television environments is preferred.  Candidates should have demonstrated knowledge of web-based languages and programs (e.g., HTML, Dreamweaver, Acrobat, Flash, JavaScript, MS FrontPage); demonstrated experience developing instructional or training materials; evidence of effective supervisory skills; and experience in development and delivery of workshops and individual faculty consultation.  The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year teaching online courses.  Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

SALARY$45,000 – 50,000 DOQ & Funding by NM Higher Education Dept. and Legislature
