Responsibilities: Under general supervision of the Director of the Academic Support Center at the Silver City Campus, provides academic advisement to all prospective and current students of Western New Mexico University’s Deming Campus. This full time position provides academic assistance and advising to new, current, and returning students; assists student with course selection and schedule adjustments based on known as well as unknown major, provides academic support counseling including student/faculty issues and concerns, career planning/academic choices, and degree audits and plans. Schedules advisement appointments with all probationary students, orients entering students to the University; meets with prospective students and parents to discuss the student’s career and/or academic goals and objectives. Qualified to plan, develop and teach curriculum and objectives of Student Success Seminar course. Organizes and conducts workshops, seminars, and forums in a variety of areas i.e.: health awareness, test anxiety, study skills and communication; acts as guest speaker in classes regarding personal growth and development. Oversees Compass and other placement testing on the Deming Campus to ensure accuracy and record integrity. Responsible for assisting with advising and/or testing duties on the Silver City campus during the Summer Orientation Programs. Serves on faculty and staff committees, advisory boards, and process management teams. Works hours are Monday through Friday, 1:00p.m. - 8:30p.m. and occasional weekend work hours as necessary. Must have reliable transportation and some travel will be required. Initial and recurring training will be conducted at the Silver City Campus. Successful candidate will perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Masters degree in Education, History, English or closely related field with at least two years experience working in higher education including responsibility for presenting educational material in a structured institutional setting. Proficiency in Spanish and experience with diverse groups is preferred.
