INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision of the Academic Lab Manager, provides user support, general problem analysis and resolution, computer hardware repair, technical assistance, and training for the Information Technology Department. This full time position assists faculty, staff and students in starting computer applications, creating and saving documents, printing documents, application specific support, e-mail, internet, programming, GroupWise, graphic design, scanning and file conversation. Hosts weekly training meetings and trains assistants on an individual basis to ensure that they are kept abreast of methods of assisting customers in the Academic Labs. Installs, configures, and maintains Macintosh OS 9 & OS X, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 98 and Windows NT workstations campus-wide at WNMU which may entail limiting access by non-authorized users, backing up workstations, adding and removing software from the workstation “build”. Also included are software and hardware upgrades. In terms of internetworking, this includes repairing physical breaks in the network, interchanging cables and building new ones as required; in order of maintenance, troubleshooting general software problems, adding network cards in the client machines, preventive maintenance and individual workstation installation of software. Hardware issues include connecting machines to the various networks using specialized pieces of software for each type of workstation (clients) and setting up the various languages (protocols including the syntax) for each machine. Diagnose and repair various pieces of hardware, removal of the hardware and installation of replacement hardware, includes monitors, keyboards, floppy drives, hard drives, computer solder joints and motherboards. Installing and removing memory on all machines in all academic areas on campus, install internal and external CD-ROM’s, installation of sound boards, changing of dipswitches in machines, software adjustments for each type of machine. Modem – Install, setup and configuration of modems. Configure the applications in which they need to use modem connections. The dial up, server name and numbers to the Internet, fax options on the modems for computers. Create specialized data entry forms in which the fields are set up with certain criteria for precise inputs. Laptops – Rebuild and setup for each individual use for who ever are checking out the laptops. Maintain and keep them on line and working. Configuring PCMCIA cards for modems, Internet and network connections. Printer Maintenance – Specialized in cleaning and maintaining inkjet and laser printers. Find the problems which cause poor or no printing and clean them if possible or replace the cartridges, rollers, etc... Hardware replacement, clean rollers that cause marks on the pages. Set up of printers for Faculty, Staff and Student use; and performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED equivalent with a technical certificate or specific coursework or training in directly related field. One to Two years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Three years experience and/or Technical certificate preferred. Proficiency in Spanish and experience with diverse groups.

RATE OF PAY: $8.65 per hour
