Stress Management

  For the Faculty

In order for our program to be successful, we depend on faculty participation. The only way to help students who may be at risk is for the instructor to give us the names of students needing help. Therefore, it is extremely important for instructors to return their rosters to us in a timely fashion. Procedures for the Early Alert are as follows:

1) At 5-week and 10-week intervals, we send class rosters to instructors of all  100 & 200-level classes.

2) Instructors return the rosters identifying students who may be at risk for the following reasons: low test/essay/quiz/assignment scores; excessive absences/tardiness; has never been to class; or simply “at risk” without meeting the above criteria.

3) We put the information into the computer and then generate a list of students who were identified, with phone numbers and addresses so that we may contact them.

4) This list is then divided among the 3 academic advisors and the Early Alert Coordinator. These 4 staff members attempt to contact the students and invite them in to come in to the office to speak with staff, and/or refer them to the appropriate resource, depending on individual need. We prefer to contact the students by telephone. Those whom we are unable to reach by phone will receive a letter, inviting them to come in.

5) The results of the contacts are then entered into the computer, so that the results can be tallied.

6) At the end of the semester, the Early Alert Coordinator sends the results to each of the participating faculty.
