The purpose of developmental studies courses is to make sure that students have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in university-level courses. Developmental studies courses provide under prepared and "at risk" students with academic support to complete the transition from high school to college. They also provide academic support to non-traditional students who have been away from formal education for several years.

COMPASS test scores are used to place students in appropriate university or developmental writing, reading, and mathematics courses. In addition, diagnostic tests are given at the beginning of each class to determine if you are properly placed. Based on your performance on the diagnostic test, your instructor may recommend that you take a more advanced course.

Following is a list of general studies courses, one or more of which may be required before you enroll in university-level math or English courses. Please note that if you are placed in a developmental course numbered 101, the next course in the sequence is numbered 102. Before moving on to the "next" course, you must complete the previously sequenced course with a "C" or better grade.
