SRPD Calendar for the 2013-2014 academic year:

Notes: When a due date falls on a weekend, acceptance dates move to the next business day. The goal of the committee is to provide feedback about funding within 15 working days of the submission. Expedited review is not always possible, nor is it possible to disperse funds quickly, so allow sufficient time for review and processing of award.

Eligibility Requirements for Students

  • Students undertaking research or creative projects in any field are eligible for this funding. IRB approval is required prior to requesting funds.
  • Funds can be requested by individuals and by groups of students.
  • Only currently-enrolled students in good standing are eligible to receive funding.
  • Projects must be the work of students, allowing for faculty mentorship, rather than the work of faculty in which students are involved.
  • Retroactive requests for funding will only be considered under very limited circumstances.
  • Students must have two faculty/staff references and at least one of those “mentors” must:
    • Be a full-time faculty member
    • have expertise in a related field
    • Be available to offer advice and support to the student throughout the project

Submitting a Proposal

For the 2013-2014 academic year, there are new forms for both students and mentors. Please be sure to use the correct forms and submit all paperwork by the 15th of the month in order for your work to be considered during that month. Keep in mind that your entire packet must be received by the 15th, including your mentor evaluation forms.

Form for students: (this includes the form for your mentors so that you can assure they receive and complete it by the 15th)

Student Application Form – for groups or individual students – Word doc

Form for mentors:

Mentor Appraisal Form - Word doc

Request for Chaperon Funding – Word doc

Please send your materials electronically (email) to Jennifer.Coleman@wnmu.edu and Jack.Crocker@wnmu.edu. Electronic signatures are welcome.

Hard copies of your forms are also welcome and should be delivered directly to the Office of Academic Affairs in Castorena Hall, to the attention of Dr. Coleman, SRPD Funds.

The Review Process:

Once your FULL application, including mentor letters, is received, the committee will meet to review it. Review meetings will NOT be delayed due to missing materials. Applications will be reviewed by at least two faculty (one of whom will be a member of the WNMU Institutional Review Board) and three student representatives. Faculty members are there to provide guidance, while students are asked to lead the review process and decisions regarding funding. Dr. Coleman serves as the coordinator and issues all letters of award.
