CATRON COUNTY
Catron County
is New Mexico's largest and most sparsely settled frontier with Reserve its
largest community. Traditionally a ranching area, new homegrown businesses
include skincare and unique food products. A growing group of artists are also calling Catron County home.
Glenwood
is another beautiful community nestled in the thickly-forested mountains of
Catron County. Glenwood’s fish hatchery is both a tourist attraction and
business. Near Glenwood is the Catwalk, a national recreational
trail along the canyon of Whitewater Creek.
The old
mining town of Mogollon is a unique experience
and still looks very much as it did in the 19th century. The Continental Divide
Trail
zigzags through this mountain complex which is characterized by rugged slopes,
narrow canyons, rocky formations, clear mountain streams and evergreen forests.
Tourism is now the primary industry for Catron County.
