HIDALGO COUNTY

Hidalgo County is located in the southwest corner of New Mexico, bordering Mexico and Arizona, and easily accessible to the east and west via Interstate 10. 

Lordsburg, the county seat, is rich in geothermal and solar energy resources. A tilapia farm and a nursery specializing in roses take advantage of the naturally-heated water and sunshine.  Hidalgo County is also home to a large chile processing plant. 

Playa, a former mining company town, is now solely owned by New Mexico Tech for the purpose of training in various homeland security technologies.

The boot heel of New Mexico and Village of Rodeo is one of the premier birding locations and growing artists communities in North America.  A surprising number of retired industry tycoons and telecommuters call the boot heel home.  Another Port of Entry to Mexico is at Antelope Wells.
