The Catwalk And Whitewater Canyon
In 1897 an 18-inch pipline was installed along Whitewater Creek in the Gila National Forest near Glenwood, New Mexico to supply water to a mill. The pipline was dubbed by workers as "The Catwalk." Today, a metal walkway suspended 25 feet above the tumbling stream clings to the canyon walls. The shear 250' bluffs seem to touch above the narrow walkway. Visitors can enjoy hiking and picniking along this cool and colorful canyon. Located about 70 miles north of Silver City along US HWY 180.
