Plants of the Gila Wilderness-- Algae

Algae

"Algae" is a name applied to groups of quite different generally aquatic organisms that are not directly related. The common name "blue-green algae" doesn't even refer to actual algae, but rather to a group of bacteria known as the cyanobacteria. Generally, "algae" are photosynthetic but are not flowering plants. Algae can be single celled or multicellular organisms. This is yet another new direction for me, so new taxa will be added as I become familiar with them.
The "blue-green algae" (cyanobacteria) are included here for convenience.
Dr. Norris is the source of much of the information provided here.
